Money:
Q. How do I get more coins?
A. You can get more coins by trading 1 Trail Note for 50 coins. You can get coins by clicking the gold nuggets on the trail, they are worth 5 coins each. If you can't click them, try stopping your wagon and click the gold while you're not moving. You get more coins when you get to Oregon and even more when you get there if you were carrying trade goods. You sell certain items found in the search game by click on them in your found inventory bar and clicking the thumbs up/consume button.
Q. How do I get more Trail Notes?
A. You can get Trail Notes by paying cash for them. When you get to Oregon you receive10 trail notes. If your oxen randomly give birth you get 5 trail notes. You also get 1 trail note for finding a silver bar and 5 trail notes for finding a gold bar. The silver/gold bars can be found using the search minigame on the dead end trails.
Q. Why don't they give Trail Notes when you level up?
A. Because you get 10 Trail Notes when you complete a trip. For higher levels, it equates to more than getting them on every level up.

Additional Ways to Collect Coins: You are also awarded 5 coins each time you click on a friend's link to help them unlock something.
Some items found in the mini-game "Search the Scene" can be cashed in for coins. These items include Beads (+25 coins), Arrowheads (+10 coins), Feathers (+50 coins), and Turquoise (+100 coins). To sell these items for coins, from your Found Items Inventory view, select the item to use it and click the 'thumbs up' icon. These items are 'consumable' just like medicine and grub.
You can also sell items back purchased items to any store, but you do so at a significant loss compared to the purchase price, so it really isn't worth it unless you want to get rid of something from your inventory (such as upgrading from Apprentice tools to Journeyman tools) or really need the cash.
Additional Ways to Collect Trail Notes: You can also find Gold and Silver Bars on the trail. The Gold Bars are worth 5 trail notes. I'm assuming the Silver Bars are worth trail notes, too, though I have yet to find one.
Randomly, one of your oxen may give birth on the trail. Your baby calf can be traded for 5 trail notes.

Unless the changes they made changed beads and arrowheads you have them reversed. Will test in game and correct, if necessary, later today.
